VALENTINE’S DAY
Love is in the Air
Hearts beginning to stir.
Valentine’s Day is upon us
Let Love surround and fill us
A day steeped in ancient medieval lore
Of martyrs and kings with hearts sore
Valentine’s letters came to be
Written in a prison cell, defying a king.
But this is not the end.
Claudius II beheaded two men.
Valentine by name
The Church declared them saints
The Lover’s holiday, predates the church
With Roots in the founding of Rome and
pagan works
Pagan ritual Lupercalia
Luperci performed the rite
Goats and dogs were sacrificed
Blood ran red, the gods to pacify
The men with bloody skins in hand
Ran the streets anointing the women with
them
To bless and grant fertility
To claim a mate for the coming festivities.
Enough said of ancient times.
Of bloody skins and pagan rhymes
The churches obsession to erase the past
To insinuate their religion, for time
everlasting.
But for us my love, the meaning is clear
It is a special day of showing my LOVE and
just how much I care.
Flowers, candy, and a special card, too
Proclaiming my Love for You.
Never forget and let me be clear
Valentine’s lasts all year.
I Proclaim my Love, oh yes, I Do,
Valentine’s Day is all about YOU.
